Who we are

Therapy here is human.

At The Garden, you’ll find a steady, grounded space where you can show up as you are, feel understood, and work toward real change.

Below, you can learn a bit about each clinician and decide who feels like the best fit for you.

Meet our Clinicians

Dr. Jacqueline Hogue, C. Psych

I’m a registered doctoral-level Clinical Psychologist in Manitoba and the founder of The Wellness Garden Clinic (“The Garden”). I offer evidence-based psychotherapy for adults who want to understand what’s happening beneath the surface and make transformative changes.

My approach

My clinical home base is Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), a research-supported, person-centred, experiential approach that helps people make sense of emotion, shift stuck patterns, and develop new emotional experiences that create lasting change. My style is warm, honest, and collaborative. Together, we slow things down, get clear on what you’re experiencing, and build a steadier internal foundation—so change isn’t just insight, but embodied. Therapy at The Garden isn’t only about managing symptoms—it’s about transformation: building a steadier relationship with yourself and creating a life that fits who you truly are.

As the moment guides us, I integrate other evidence-based approaches such as Narrative Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and mindfulness—always in a way that fits you.

Experience & fit

I’ve been seeing clients since 2016. I’ve worked in hospital, community, and private practice settings, supporting adults with complex emotional and relational concerns. My background includes experience in hospital-based mental health care, including work with adult eating-disorder treatment in a day-treatment/outpatient context.

What you can expect

Psychotherapy with me is a space to be fully human—without performing, over-explaining, or having to “prove” your pain. We’ll move at a pace that feels both safe and honest. I’ll help you track patterns with compassion, access the emotions that actually organize change, and practice new ways of responding—so growth becomes something you can rely on.

If you’re looking for therapy that is thoughtful, emotionally rigorous, and grounded in evidence, you’re in the right place.

Barbara Balshaw-Dow, MSW, RSW

I’m a Registered Social Worker with over three decades of experience supporting adults through complex life experiences with care, respect, and integrity. I hold a Master of Social Work from the University of Manitoba and I’m registered to practice in Manitoba, British Columbia, Ontario, and Saskatchewan.

I offer counselling for adults, including individuals, couples, and families who are navigating emotional distress, life transitions, and the lasting impact of difficult experiences. My approach is grounded in the belief that you are the expert of your own life—and that meaningful change happens in the context of safety, collaboration, and trust.

My approach

I work from a trauma-informed, client-centred, and strengths-based perspective. I support clients in reconnecting with their sense of safety, choice, and self-trust—whether you’re addressing long-standing patterns or responding to current challenges such as anxiety, grief, relationship changes, or identity shifts.

Our work begins with your story: what’s happening now, and how your past may be shaping the present. Together, we explore what you’re carrying and identify practical strategies that support your goals, values, and well-being.

As our work together unfolds, I draw from a range of evidence-based and reflective practices, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, basic EMDR techniques, and mindfulness-based approaches.

Experience & fit

I’ve worked extensively in health and family services and have been in private counselling practice since 2018. I’m committed to creating a safe, non-judgmental space where clients feel supported in exploring concerns and moving toward greater connection, purpose, and self-acceptance.

Counselling with me may be covered by extended health insurance. Direct billing may be available for NIHB and Manitoba Blue Cross (where eligible).

What to Expect

Counselling with me offers a calm, supportive space to slow down and talk things through at your own pace. Sessions are collaborative and grounded in respect, with room for both reflection and practical support. Together, we focus on understanding what you’re experiencing and identifying steps that feel manageable and meaningful for you. My goal is to help you feel supported, clearer, and more grounded as you move forward.
